An open journal with the words, I’m not going to change the fact that I write a lot! I can’t. I have to be real and authentic. I have to be me. And I have to write. A fountain pen, some pressed flowers, some crystals

Why I Have To Journal and Why I Want To Share My Journey

Hey there! It’s good to see you here. My name is Lizzie, and I am the redhead who is always wondering! Wondering about life, about this beautiful world, about words and light and colour and form. And mostly about how I can be the best me that I can possibly be.

I am a creator of hand bound books and of art, in the form of cyanotypes and photographs. I am also an avid journal-keeper and I’d like to share some of my journal wonderings with you today ….

People Buy From People

A little while ago, I was feeling pretty down about my bookbinding business. I opened up to some of my biz-buddies about how disheartened I was feeling.

One friend told me that sometimes she reads my long social media posts (they’re usually pretty long!), and she gets to the end and isn’t sure what I’m selling.

It made me really pause for thought, and then I journaled about it. I wrote and wrote and wrote, because that’s what I do when I need to straighten out my thinking.

And here’s the thing … the whole point of my social media posts is that I am NOT always trying to sell my journals. A lot of the time, I’m writing about the power of journaling, I’m writing about why journaling is important to me, because I want women to know me, and to trust me, and to maybe try journaling for themselves.

Those are the women who, in marketing-speak, are my “Ideal Customers”.

Could You Be The Woman I Am Talking To?

Do you want to read about journaling, about the benefits of this amazing tool for self-development?

Do you want to read about the breakthroughs you can have when you open up a dialogue with yourself?

Do you want to understand yourself, and find a way to heal the wounded and broken parts of yourself?

Do you want to practice gratitude in a way that is meaningful to you?

Do you want tips and advice on how to deepen your journaling practice?

Do you believe that there is more to you … that you have more to give, that you deserve to receive more, that there is more to be found out about you?

Or are you a businesswoman who wishes she could write long-form content for her social media?

If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you’re my sort of woman!

You see, I answer yes to all of these questions.

This is me.

This is who I am.

I want to write for people, for women, who will get me; women who will read what I say and think, “YES! That’s me! That’s my life!

My Long Posts Are Here To Stay

So, I’m not going to change the fact that I write a lot! I can’t. I have to be real and authentic. I have to be me.

And I have to write.

It’s in my nature, it’s what I’m all about.

As for my business, I’m going to carry on, because the breakthrough could be just around the corner.

And isn’t that what showing up at the page every day is all about … writing until the breakthrough comes; writing until the answers come; writing until there is some clarity.

Writing Is My Therapy

This is where I do my journaling on summer mornings, my patio table in my garden with a closed journal.
Getting myself ready to write

It’s why I write every day.

It’s why I move my hand, my pen, my words, across the page.

Writing is my therapy, my balm on the sore parts of myself.

Writing is where I find my ease with myself.

This is where I do my journaling on summer mornings, my patio table in my garden with an open journal
My garden is my favourite place to write

I would be doing this every day, even if I weren’t in the journal business. I would be doing this even if I weren’t taking the words and passing them on to other women on social media, offering my words as a balm to them … to say, “Look, I was broken, I was hurt, I have scars way deeper than my skin; but I wrote myself whole, I wrote myself better, I wrote myself! Full-stop!”

I want to share this powerful tool with other women, I want to share this powerful tool with YOU.

I want to lead you to the blank page and let you know that here is where you can start to gather together the scattered parts of yourself. Here is where you can rant and rave at the injustices; where you can let your anger at the wrongdoings flow out of you and onto the page, where it’s safe.

Tell Yourself The Truth

Here is where you can tell yourself the truth. Here is where you can say, ENOUGH IS ENOUGH!

Here is where you can draw your line in the sand and say, NO MORE!

And here is where you can start to heal. You can tell yourself that you are enough. You are more than enough! You are amazing, and you deserve better than settling for the crappy hand life dealt you.

Be Your Own Therapist

In the pages of your journal, you get to be your own therapist. In the pages of your journal, you get to listen to your inner voice, the one that tells you the truth.

We have all read and heard a thousand times that we hold the answers to our problems inside ourselves. We have all heard that a good therapist doesn’t give you the “answer”, they lead you to it, so that you find it yourself.

And all that is true.

And that is why journaling is so powerful.

You get to open up that therapeutic dialogue with your inner self and you get to find out the truth about yourself.

The time I spend alone each morning with my journal is my ultimate
“me time”.
It is my connection
to myself.

The truth about me is that I was born to write.I am an introvert who finds the written word easier than the spoken one.

I feel things deeply, I can be sensitive (too sensitive, some might say).

I am easily hurt, and I take criticism personally.

And if I didn’t have my journal to set me on the right (write) path, then it would be easy for me to spiral down into self-pity.

I don’t think or plan, make To Do lists, or organise my thoughts before I start to write.
I am simply present
to myself.

So, I’m really grateful to my friend who made me think about what I’m posting, who cares enough to be honest with me, but I am not going to stop writing, and I am not going to stop writing long social media posts, because there just might be a woman out there who needs to read them.

Asking yourself questions can be a way of diving deep into yourself.

What I have found is that I will start by answering a question, then words will come, avenues of thought will open, and I will go down them; memories will surface, and I will examine them; ideas will start to spark, and I will follow their light.
