As a small independent business, I appreciate it so much when you choose to shop small and shop with me! I am grateful to each and every one of my customers.
But your custom is especially appreciated at this time of year, when everyone is gearing up for Christmas and the big companies have launched their promotions … advertising campaigns that those big companies have oodles of money to splurge on (whereas we small business owners have to rely on the kindness of our friends and social media followers to spread the word!).
How To Market When You Don’t Have a Marketing Budget
My “Marketing Budget” is not a financial one … it’s time … the hours I spend writing posts and blogs, taking photographs of my books and of my creative process, and then uploading all of these to my website, to Facebook and Instagram and Twitter; the hours I spend creating Pins and posting them.
So, I want to say a huge, enormous THANK YOU to all of you reading this, I want to say a huge thank you to everyone who supports my small business.
With every purchase from my British Craft House shop, with every like and every follow on my Social Media pages, with every lovely comment and kind review, believe me when I say that you make a HUGE difference to me and to my fellow makers, artists, and artisans!
Get Behind the Small Business Saturday Campaign
Small Business Saturday UK is a grassroots, non-commercial campaign, which highlights small business success and encourages consumers to ‘shop local’ and support small businesses in their communities.
The day itself takes place on the first Saturday in December each year, but the campaign aims to have a lasting impact on small businesses
On Small Business Saturday, customers across the UK go out and support all types of small businesses, online, in offices and in stores. Many small businesses take part in the day by hosting events.
Here in the British Craft House, we love to support each other!
This year’s Small Business Saturday takes place on December 4th.
And this year, I’m doing my bit for Small Business Saturday by telling you about the artisans that I love to support, and the ones I’ll be shopping with on the big day!
First there’s Godrevy Textiles
Beautiful handwoven cloth from Godrevy Textiles is sewn into home decor objects, baskets, bags and gifts.
Godrevy Textiles is literally a cottage industry on the picturesque Lizard peninsula in Cornwall. Sarah works from home creating distinctive fabric woven on a hand loom, which she then lovingly crafts and sews, using the best quality linen, into fabulous usable objects for the home and person.
From nesting storage containers, decorative trugs, large baskets for craft supplies or for use in the office, to small baskets for trinkets or keepsakes, bags and memory boxes. All make wonderful and unique gifts. I have my eye on her gorgeous handwarmers!!
The colours that Sarah uses are truly wonderful … my personal favourites are the turquoises and sea greens, but I’m also rather partial to the greens and golds of her Christmas ranges. You can find Sarah’s Godrevy Textiles British Craft House shop here … Godrevy Textiles
Next comes Louise Hancox Textile Artist
From a small studio in beautiful Worcestershire, Louise designs and creates a range of original textile paintings, 3d vessels, sewn gifts and home accessories. Louise loves texture and colour and the hands-on approach to her craft, manipulating fibres and fabrics into something beautiful.
Using a range of techniques, including wet felting, needle felting, appliqué, hand and free motion embroidery, she is inspired by the countryside on her doorstep and beyond. Louise is a member of the International Felt Makers Association and a supporter of the Campaign For Wool.
I love so much of Louise’s work, but I think my absolute favourite pieces are her sea-inspired felt bowls … they’re definitely on my TBCH Wishlist!! You can shop for these and so many other beautiful creations in Louise’s shop here … Louise Hancox Textile Artist
And next I’d love to share the work of Sally Thake Jewellery
Sally creates the most exquisite jewellery with tiny glass beads, crystals and resin beads.
She creates earrings, necklaces, bracelets, and beaded accessories. These are always colourful and unique. I love the way that Sally’s creations reflect the seasons. In the summer she was making the most beautiful coral-inspired earrings in gorgeous turquoises and pinks. And lately she’s been creating Christmassy goodies!
Sally is based in the lovely Cambridgeshire fens, a part of the world that I’d love to explore.

Then There’s Me … Redheadwondering Hand Bound Books!
I’m the woman behind Redheadwondering Hand Bound Books. I create beautiful hand bound books because I really do believe that your words are worth it (and because I’m an unashamed stationery junkie and journal-keeper!)
These books are perfect for journals and diaries, for sketchbooks and photograph albums. These books can be whatever you want them to be.
I make the covers from original cyanotype prints, which I create using flowers and sunshine and a little bit of alchemy!
I use wildflowers gathered from the hedgerows around my beautiful Wiltshire home or picked from my own lovely English country garden.
I absolutely love creating Cyanotypes. For me, it’s like chemistry-meets-alchemy, because I’m never quite sure what magic will appear until the very end!
You can find a wide range of journals, albums and sketchbooks in my TBCH shop here … Redheadwondering Hand Bound Books
Shop Small, Shop Independent, Shop Handmade
And as if I haven’t already given you enough reasons to shop with us … all four of us create unique and beautiful handcrafted goods right here in the Great British Isles … we also all gift wrap our lovely things before we send them out. And we’ll even send them direct to the lucky recipients if you are distance gifting! Beautiful things, lovingly handcrafted, beautifully wrapped … what’s not to love about all of that?!
So why not support some small, independent British businesses on Saturday the 4th?
Whether you’re looking for that perfect gift or you want to treat yourself, I promise you that you won’t be disappointed!
Happy Small Business Saturday to ALL the independent businesses in the UK!!
